Chicago- Michael Jordan has been scoring more points in the game of endorsements than in the game of basketball in which he once dominated. Earning an estimated $40 million a year from endorsements alone, the sports icon’s highest paid yearly salary in the NBA was $30 million.
Jordan was considered one of the best basketball players of all time and was one of the highest paid athletes in the world and his basketball career has been over for quite some time.
Jordan has racked up the money over the years and is currently worth over $200 million mainly from endorsements, according to Terry Armour, writer for the Chicago Tribune.
Jordan has done more than ten endorsements since his retirement that has trumped his salary while he was an NBA superstar. Endorsements include Coca Cola, Nike, Chevrolet, Gatorade, McDonald’s, Ball Park Franks, Rayovac, Wheaties, Hanes, MCI, and many more, according to ESPN.com’s Darren Rovell.

Jordan’s most famous endorsements were Nike and Gatorade. Nike shoes started their own name brand of shoes called “Air Jordan,” which became so popular that people were robbed at gunpoint for the ever famous shoes, according to Rovell.
The “Air Jordan” then spun off into the “Jordan Brand,” which turned into basketball clothing that has sponsored winning championship caliber teams such as North Carolina, Cincinnati, Cal, St. John’s, and Georgetown Division 1 programs, according to Forbes.com and Nike.com.
The “Air Jordan” and the “Jordan Brand” were Jordan’s idea, and he heavily helped in the marketing of those products and the brand name, said David Falk, Michael Jordan’s agent.
Michael Jordan was not only the best at basketball but the best at marketing his products and supporting his endorsements, according to Falk.
